Ramblings

I feel like rambling on today about all kinds of stuff. So let me do it. What the hell? I have lost the habit of writing something just for the fun of it! I am getting a lot of thoughts and memories of my stay in Mysore. I don't know why and i don't care but they were good times I had. I seem to be in a kind of limbo right now.. where am I going and what am I doing I have no idea.

I feel lost and totally at sea in this life of mine. I just consulted the orthopaedic surgeon who did my surgeries and he says i have to undergo another stupid treatment for strengthening my bones. I am totally mad. I dont want it and i dont like it. I had thought all that rubbish was behind me. but it seems its not to be, I am still undergoing it and it will last till I die I guess. I am fed up and tired of all this medicine, treatment, hospitals doctors and all that sort of thing. I want to feel normal like any other guy.

But this stupid world does not let you be that. it always throws something in your way. its so frustrating and all the people in the world start advising you how to lead your life when that starts to happen. they keep telling you what you should be doing in that situation and they dont know what they are talking about. I would for once like to see what all those people will be like when and if something like this happens to them. That would be fun to see, seriously..

thats it for today.. time for dinner....

A New Day Has Come

An appeal to Celine, please dont sue me for the plagiarism, Its not worth the effort, I have no money.

Ah good to get that over with, now for something interesting.

Another list. Music and Artists.**

01 Richard Marx
02 Celine Dion
03 Johnny Cash
04 The Doors
05 Dire Straits
06 Eagles
07 Maharajapuram Santhanam
08 K V Narayanaswamy
09 Bhimsen Joshi
10 T N Krishnan
11 Dwaram Venkataswamy Naidu
12 N Rajam

**Conditions Apply. Some people are going to say that its madness to put all those names in the same place at once. But what the hell! its my list, if you dont like it, go elsewhere!

On a more serious note, I find this whole listing idea very intriguing. What exactly makes people make lists? I am going to sound like Samuel Coleridge here, please bear with me.

People can make lists for various reasons.

1 It might be to help remember a lot of things to be done or to get done, like shopping lists.
2 Or it might serve as motivation to better oneself or achieve goals. Like wish lists.
3 It might serve as a powerful arguement tool. When you want to fight someone and win.
(it makes sense to make a list of the other persons shortcomings beforehand and then go on to blast the hell out of that person when actually engaged in war. Use the gyaan at your own risk. Injurious to health.)
4 It might serve as a guide, like listing out the points when you want to write an official letter or essay or anything.
5 Then it might help you in taking stock of what you hava and not have. Like inventories, giving you definite pointers to look at areas neglected, that need attention and care.
6 Last but not the least, it can be great fun!

So enjoy making lists!

Finally

This post is something that i have been putting off all these days, telling myself that i am going to get around to it sometime. It has been lying in my drafts folder for more than a few months now. So today i decided to wipe the whole thing off and start over.

It looks like i have found something to write about. This last month I have been enjoying the holidays and a week ago this monday I started my second year of college. Everybody has not turned up and the classes have not started in earnest and i am here, finding some free time. I know, I know.. I had the time, but never felt like writing, this last month. I have a lazy streak in me.

Anyway, I have been watching quite a few movies and am going to write about them. First things first. How I watch a movie. I NEVER sit in front of the TV, not even for news, I get that from the newspaper. Dont ask me what real news is there in the media these days though. If my lecturer in journalism reads this, she is going to kill me. I am going to go ahead and hope she does not read this. So, I watch movies only when somebody recommends them and I get the CD or DVD.

Somehow I have never watched many movies on the spur of the moment and in theatres. I hear about a movie, see the review and talk to friends who have seen it and then decide and watch them, which doesnt mean that I have not gone to the theatres, I have, But thats only a fraction of the movies I have seen. Most have been on the CD or DVD and many during the time I had health problems and I was in the hospitals.

Now for some movies I saw recently ( I love lists, just like my cousin kailash ) **

01 Schindler's List (there goes the word again!)
02 Saving Private Ryan
03 Italian Job
04 A Walk to Remember
05 Step Up (1)
06 Defiance
07 Black Hawk Down
08 Hurt Locker
09 All The Presidents Men
10 Shattered Glass
11 Charulatha - The Lonely Wife (Sathyajit Ray)
12 Karthik Calling Karthik

**Conditions apply. The list is not in any particular order, And no inference is to be drawn or opinions formed based on the order (or the lack of it) I am not even saying that I liked those movies. A list is a list. Watch them at your own risk!

Inspiration

I got the following in an e-mail. Have a nice day after reading it. It is really inspiring!

Suvendu Roy of Titan Industries shares his inspirational encounter with a rickshaw driver in Mumbai:

Last Sunday, my wife, kid, and I had to travel to Andheri from Bandra. When I waved at a passing auto rickshaw, little did I expect that this ride would be any different...

As we set off, my eyes fell on a few magazines (kept in an aircraft style pouch) behind the driver's back rest.

I looked in front and there was a small TV. The driver had put on the Doordarshan channel.

My wife and I looked at each other with disbelief and amusement. In front of me was a small first-aid box with cotton, dettol and some medicines. This was enough for me to realise that I was in a special vehicle.

Then I looked round again, and discovered more - there was a radio, fire extinguisher, wall clock, calendar, and pictures and symbols of all faiths - from Islam and Christianity to Buddhism, Hinduism and Sikhism.

There were also pictures of the heroes of 26/11- Kamte, Salaskar, Karkare and Unnikrishnan.

I realised that not only my vehicle, but also my driver was special.

I started chatting with him and the initial sense of ridicule and disbelief gradually diminished.

I gathered that he had been driving an auto rickshaw for the past 8-9 years; he had lost his job when his employer's plastic company was shut down.

He had two school-going children, and he drove from 8 in the morning till 10 at night.

No break unless he was unwell. "Sahab, ghar mein baith ke T.V dekh kar kya faida? Do paisa income karega toh future mein kaam aayega."

We realised that we had come across a man who represents Mumbai – the spirit of work, the spirit of travel and the spirit of excelling in life. I asked him whether he does anything else as I figured that he did not have too much spare time.

He said that he goes to an old age home for women in Andheri once a week or whenever he has some extra income, where he donates tooth brushes, toothpastes, soap, hair oil, and other items of daily use.

He pointed out to a painted message below the meter that read: "25 per cent discount on metered fare for the handicapped.

Free rides for blind passengers up to Rs. 50.

My wife and I were struck with awe. The man was a HERO!

A hero who deserves all our respect!!!

Our journey came to an end;

45 minutes of a lesson in humility, selflessness, and of a hero-worshipping Mumbai, my temporary home.

We disembarked, and all I could do was to pay him a tip that would hardly cover a free ride for a blind man.

I hope, one day, you too have a chance to meet Mr Sandeep Bachhe in his auto rickshaw: MH-02-Z-8508.
